Saint Louis University Baguio Lantern Parade 2016

Lantern Parade in Baguio City, Philippines has been a tradition done by the Saint Louis University Baguio as a way to celebrate the Christmas season. It is done every 1st day of December every year and it is done simultaneously with the annual lighting of the city’s Christmas tree. This event has also been one of the attractions of the City during Christmas season for both locals and tourists. The parade is participated by all the schools of the university like the school of accountancy and business management, school of medicine, school of engineering and architecture, school of law, among others. It is also being participated by the elementary and high school division.

The lantern parade basically is a parade of handmade and colorful lanterns that glows at night which add colors and beauty to the busiest roads of Baguio. It is also accompanied by the music of the drum and lyres that play Christmas jingles from time to time. The parade always starts at the top of the ever famous Session Rd., going down Harrison Rd., and usually ends at the Melvin Jones grandstand but for this year, the parade ended at the Baguio Athletic Bowl for the performance of each participants.

So here are few shots I got from the Lantern Parade before I head home from work:

Shooting handheld at night without using the built in flash of a DSLR camera has always been a struggle for me and makes my shots grainy as always. For these batch of shots I used my Canon EOS 60d with 50mm lens with the maximum aperture f/1.8 and I just used auto ISO, and fast shutter speed from 1/125 to 1/250. I used my 50mm lens to take advantage of its maximum aperture of f/1.8 and to shot at a faster speed without using a tripod considering that the event is done at night. I guess the lens and my manual settings somehow gave me decent shots.
